You cannot buy an Eshet Chayil piece off our shelf, because we do not make one. What we do is engrave אשת חיל onto a piece you choose, in real Hebrew letterforms, and show you a proof before anything is cut. If you wanted a ready-made pendant with the words already on it, that is a different shop and we would rather say so than waste your afternoon.

Here is what actually matters if you are buying this as a gift.

What Eshet Chayil means, and why people want it engraved

Eshet Chayil, אשת חיל, opens the last passage of Mishlei, Proverbs chapter 31. It is usually translated as a woman of valor, though valor is a thin word for what the passage describes. The full text runs twenty-two verses, one for each letter of the alef-bet, and it is sung in many homes on Friday night before kiddush.

That Friday night association is the reason this shows up as a gift. A husband sings it to his wife. Children hear it every week. So it lands differently than a generic inscription, and people buying it usually have a specific woman and a specific occasion in mind.

How much of it fits on jewelry

This is the practical question and it decides your whole order. The two words אשת חיל are short and fit almost anywhere, including a ring band. The opening phrase, אשת חיל מי ימצא, who can find a woman of valor, needs more room and works on a bangle or a bar pendant. The full twenty-two verses do not fit on anything wearable, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling you illegible text.

Rough guide from our bench: a spinning ring band takes about four to five characters per visible face. A cuff or bangle takes a full short sentence across the front. A bar or nameplate pendant sits in between.

What to engrave it on

Three formats work, and they suit different people.

A personalized engravable bangle cuff is the one most customers pick for this. Flat face, room for the phrase, and it reads across the wrist rather than being hidden. The wider engraved bangle bracelets give you more room again if you want the longer opening line.

A pendant keeps it private. The Hebrew name necklaces are built to carry Hebrew script, and a bar pendant takes אשת חיל comfortably. If she already wears a chain, this is the least disruptive option.

A ring is the hardest of the three and the most personal. Space is tight, so it is the two-word version only. The Hebrew rings are the engravable bands we work with.

Gold, silver, or steel

925 sterling silver takes Hebrew engraving beautifully and is the middle tier on price. Solid 14k gold is the heirloom answer and costs accordingly. Stainless steel is the toughest and the friendliest to sensitive skin. Nothing we sell is plated unless the listing says so in plain words, which is not true of every shop selling Judaica online.

One thing worth knowing before you spend: sterling is 92.5 percent silver with copper making up most of the rest, and even solid 14k is only 58.3 percent gold. Acidic skin can mark under either. We wrote the honest version of that in do spinner rings turn your finger green.

Getting the Hebrew right

Hebrew is not a decorative font here. The Honest Jeweler is a Jewish-owned shop and we set real letterforms, then send you a proof to approve. That step exists because a wrong final letter or a dropped vowel turns a meaningful gift into something she has to be gracious about. If you want the detail on how the engraving process runs, our Hebrew engraving guide covers letterforms, spacing and what we can and cannot do.

Send us the spelling however you have it. A photo of a bentcher, a line from an invitation, a screenshot. We work from what you give us.

When people buy this

An anniversary, most often. Also a milestone birthday, a wife recovering from something hard, a mother of the bride, and occasionally a rebbetzin or a teacher at the end of a year. It is not a bat mitzvah gift. Twelve-year-olds do not want to be called a woman of valor, and the bat mitzvah jewelry gifts are a better fit for that age.

Common questions

Do you sell a ready-made Eshet Chayil necklace? No. We engrave it to order onto an engravable piece. That is the honest answer and it is why the piece ends up saying exactly what you want rather than a stock abbreviation.

Can you engrave the whole Proverbs 31 passage? No. Twenty-two verses will not fit legibly on jewelry at any size we make.

Can you do it in gold? Yes, in solid 14k. It is the most expensive route and the one people choose for a significant anniversary.

Is your jewelry made in Israel? No. We handcraft everything ourselves. We are a Jewish-owned shop and the Hebrew is real, but we are not going to claim an Israeli workshop we do not have.

How long does engraving take? Every piece is made after you order rather than pulled from stock. Your confirmation email carries the current timing.
